When I first saw GetUp! advertise this event I decided it was time for me to get off my bum.
For years, our politicians have ignored a simple fact – the majority of Australians want more action on climate change. It’s time to come together and launch a summer of climate action on November 17.
So Husband and I headed to Queen’s Park, Brisbane to join 5,000 other like minded people to show that we want action on climate change.
The MC was very good, however, we were at the rear of the crowd so it was tricky hearing all he said.
We were instructed to
WEAR HOT SUMMER COLOURS. Think red, orange, yellow – shirts, clothes, signs, banners, facepaint, hats, umbrellas and any other creative ideas.
So it was good to see people get into the spirit.
Even the trees obliged.
There were some very funny placards on show too
The speakers were passionate.
Look forward to our speakers: Dean McNulty (United Firefighters Union), Emma Bosworth (Beyond Zero Emissions), Drew Hutton (Lock the Gate), Gemma Plesman (Reef campaigner), Christine Milne (Greens) and Jim Chalmers (Australian Labor Party)
Managed to hear Jim talk about Tony Abbot’s Government taking us back to Queen Victoria times. Conveniently, she’s in the park.
Two men in a cherry picker making a lot of noise which drowned out the speakers and most annoying for the crowd. Began to wonder if it was a conspiracy.
Kids at the rally doing what kids do best!
Finally, us old dudes
With rallies happening around the country an estimated 60,000 people got off their bums to tell Tony Abbott he’s wrong about repealing the carbon price. Here is the break-down:
SYDNEY: 10,000 (in heavy rain)
PERTH: expecting 1,000 (their even starts soon!)
